CashFlow Manager

Cashflow Manager Pty Ltd

Our mission is to empower small business owners to do their own bookkeeping through the use of innovative technology that is radically simple to use and provides a win/win for them and their accountants.

Cashflow Manager began in 1990, founded by Australian CPA Wayne Burgan.

Wayne had always been passionate about small business after commencing his first business of a guitar school at the age of 14 while still at school himself.

While he was employed at the Australian Taxation Office he was exposed first hand to the problems small business owners faced by not keeping good records. After 10 years at the ATO, Wayne left and a short time later, commenced Burgan & Associates, Certified Practising Accountants.

Wayne was still passionate about small business and focused his accounting practice on helping small business owners. This attracted the attention of consultants at the South Australian Small Business Development Corporation who began referring him small business owners either starting out or in financial trouble.

Wayne found that the biggest problem the majority of small business owners faced could be traced back to not understanding the bookkeeping side of business.

So he developed a simple, step by step system to help his clients keep better records and found that this was the major breakthrough for his clients. And of course, excellent records from his clients meant less time on what accountants call ‘compliance work’ and more time for helping clients improve their business.

Thousands of copies of that original manual system are still used by small business owners today, although the software version, which was designed to mirror the simplicity that made the original manual systems successful, was introduced in 1996 and has since sold over 120,000 copies in Australia alone.

Wayne proved that it was a true win/win for his small business clients and his own accounting practice, so for the first 15 years, Cashflow Manager was sold in Australia exclusively through accountants.

However, Cashflow Manager began to be criticised because the products were not widely enough known.

For example, in November 2004, Peter Switzer who was a Cashflow Manager user himself, wrote an article in The Australian where he called Cashflow Manager “one of Australia’s best kept secrets”.

When he interviewed Wayne he told him that he didn’t necessarily mean this as a compliment because the ‘accountant exclusivity’ model meant that the majority of small business owners in Australia were totally unaware of the best solution for their bookkeeping needs.

So Cashflow Manager no longer has an accountant ‘exclusivity’ model, although we certainly continue to have an accountant centric model as we continue to believe that client focused accountants are the best people to be advising their clients about the software they should be using.

The Cashflow Manager head office is in Edwardstown, a suburb of Adelaide, South Australia where developers and support technicians are located.

Distributors and representatives are located throughout Australia as well as the UK and North America.
